Halloween Family Style

Our family was not going to let COVID-19 mess up our Halloween Fall festivities! With adults planning creative activities and children excited about costumes, games, crafts, roasting hotdogs, we were assured the evening would be a success.
Emily planned pumpkin carving and painting.
The first activity was decorating trick-or-treat bags with stickers and markers.
A pleasantly cool sunny fall day was perfect for our outdoor fun.
With so many sticker choices, who can decide which ones to use?

I am blessed with creative grandchildren!

The artists then began to create their masterpieces.
From the youngest to the ...er...eldest, all crafted.

Look very closely at the 3 sticker "stories." Do you see the shrimp blowing a whistle? A turtle playing soccer? An angler fish wearing high-tops? Hilarious!
The next step was to listen carefully to instructions about options for designing pumpkins.
Surprisingly, the younger kids wanted to carve pumpkins.
Even the wee ones loved the activities!
Every Halloween should be this much fun

But the older kids opted to paint their pumpkins.

Such a display of amazing costumes! I am glad that I didn't have to select the best costume!

A light-saber wielding cowboy, Link and a brave knight team up to fight the bad guys.
Link is ready for any challenge!
The knight stands prepared to defend his castle!
The Indian scout checking the horizon!
Zebras are immune to the plague, right Plague Doctor?
The plague doctor attempts a cure: scare the life out of the patient!
The Avenging Ant-man! See if you can find the other Avenger character, Thanos.

Link specializes in dragon slaying!

How many super heroes does it take to conquer a dragon?
Storytime from a cousin.
Babies can enjoy the festivities too!
Cowboys can carve pumpkins, too.
The plague doctor wishes to know if his Jack-o-Lantern can scare away the plague.
As the afternoon sun set, the fire Grand-Dad built was toasty warm, perfect for roasting hotdogs.
What a wonderful menu we had! Hot dogs and homemade chili, petros and fixin's and hot chocolate!
Stand back! Clear the way for more hot dogs!
A highlight of the evening was when we gathered around the campfire and two plague doctors explained their role in dealing with the Black Death, later identified as the bubonic plague, a disease spread by rats' fleas. During the fireside storytelling, we learned that the plague doctors wore beak-like masks filled with herbs to ward off infection.
Keeping watch for Trick or Treaters!
Good night, Trick or Treaters! We had lots of fun!!
