Walnut Tree Downed

The Scraggly Walnut Tree Comes Down
After many years of failing attempts to remove an unwanted walnut tree in the side yard, I have to give grudging admiration for the tenacity of trees! In the past we have cut and burned the misshapen tree which had shed pesky branches and walnuts in our gutters. Before the birds had a chance to build nests in its branches, the guys brought it down in an afternoon.  The saga began when Matthew wanted to supply us with firewood from a downed tree on his property. He enlisted the help of Jonathan, Jacob, Zechariah and Caleb. What working warriors! Z and C were not afraid of hard labor nor getting dirty. The tree provided a pickup load of firewood for next winter. The next challenge was to bring down the walnut tree.
One job finished! One to go!
With lots of help, grunt work doesn't take long!
The last two sections to add to the stack.
A tree with bad scoliosis is an accident waiting to happen. Jacob climbed up to tie a rope around the branches to aid in directing the fall.
Sizing up where to cut.
Placing the wedge cut is important.
Hold on! Get ready to pull!
How many engineers does it take to saw down a tree? Precision is important!
After many years of cutting firewood, Grand-Dad can offer sound advice on how to make the cut so the tree falls in the right direction.
Jonathan takes one last look before cutting behind the wedge.
 She's down!
 Clean-up begins.
Everyone pitches in to haul brush.
  Grandsons hard at work!

 Almost finished!
Cutting the big logs require strong backs and careful attention.
Whew! This logging business is hard work!
Job nearly finished! Some hard-working sons and grandsons did a fantastic job!
Zechariah supervising from his perch and taking a much deserved rest.
The Grands are very grateful and are very blessed to have such a generous family!
