A Celebration of Two Birthdays!
Granddad has a tradition of choosing a hike to celebrate his birthday with family members who would like to join him. This year 2019 he chose to hike Flat's Mountain Trail in the Cherokee National Forest. Youngest son Matthew and oldest grandson Jacob volunteered to blaze the trail with the old man.
The trail was not maintained well, so the guys did a bunch of brier stomping and bushwhacking down the trail. Oh, spiders of all sizes, shapes and models built their webs at face level.
The hike would probably be an excellent winter hike when the views would be spectacular without the foliage.
So, after dropping off the 3 brave hikers, the rest of us settled down on the Indian Boundary Lake beach to play, swim, picnic and fish. The giant pine tree provided abundant shade.
September 4 is a special day! Z celebrates his birthday with Granddad. Where Granddad turned 71, Z turned 6.
Caleb loved all the activities!
Building sand castles, swimming and playing with cousins!
Char is our little mermaid! She and her mom biked the 3.2 mile perimeter of the lake and relished in cooling off in the lake water.
Schaeff scurried out of the water to snatch his fishing pole to see how many blue gill fish he could coax on the hook.
Having help from cousins make fishing much easier. No, not as bait, but as bait organizers! Someone has to hold the bread dough bait!
Beware Micah, the Ninja fisherman!
